Guidance: Raising your Game

Principles-based guidance for board risk committees and risk functions across sectors

The Risk Coalition is delighted to publish Raising your Game, its new cross-sector leading practice risk governance guidance.

Designed for boards and the committee with consolidated risk responsibility – be that an audit committee, audit & risk committee or a dedicated board risk committee – Raising your Game helps leaders across industries, in the UK and beyond, understand what good risk governance looks like. It also provides a roadmap for improving the quality and effectiveness of each organisation’s risk arrangements.

Notwithstanding the finalisation of the guidance, we continue to welcome feedback on all aspects of our work, including suggestions for future Risk Coalition projects. This can be sent to feedback@riskcoalition.org.uk.

“I am delighted to see the Risk Coalition’s new Principles for risk governance, which align well with our new Internal Audit Code of Practice. The risk governance guidelines proposed for boards and senior executives provide extra clarity and guidance for their oversight of risk management and internal audit. Risk functions and internal audit have always had a close working relationship, and Raising your Game reinforces this. I highly recommend that those overseeing risk and internal audit functions take on board the sound advice in this document.”

Raising your Game will help any organisation, in any sector and of any size, identify and manage risk. With the revised UK Corporate Governance Code’s emphasis on internal controls and risk management frameworks, this is a timely guide for boards and senior executives, which encourages a holistic approach to risk through the well-established three lines model of assurance. Good, strategic risk governance builds resilience and delivers opportunities for growth, and this publication will be a valuable resource to help businesses navigate this critical area.”
